The Modernization, Improvement, and Transformation Initiative Project

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​T he San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) began the Modernization, Improvement and Transformation Initiative (MITI) to transform and modernize the areas of business operations, finance, payroll, and human resources for local educational agencies and the county office.

The MITI team is comprised of subject-matter experts in business operations, finance, payroll, human resources, and technology. Utilizing 21st-century technology and management practices, the team will focus on improving services in the key areas of: business operations, finance, payroll, and human resources. They will work with local school district personnel, SDCOE staff and other agencies in order to achieve a state-of-the-art business enterprise system that will positively impact the county, schools, and most importantly, the students.

The MITI project began in January 2011 and will be finalized by December 2016. In order to determine the very best solution for schools throughout the county, input and collaboration among school district and county office personnel is absolutely imperative. The result is a new and innovative business system that will support schools and their students by ensuring that districts can effectively meet their needs.

Public education is a $4 billion enterprise in San Diego County, and it is vital that the very best business operations, finance, payroll, and human resources practices are employed to support that enterprise. We are excited about the MITI project and the modernized system it will provide for our schools, teachers, and administrators who support and educate our students.
