Eligibility and Team Requirements

A team consists of full-time students from the tenth through twelfth grades of the same high school. A full-time student is defined as a student who is enrolled in four or more class periods per day. Each team is made up of students from three different categories: Honor students, Scholastic students, and Varsity students in accordance with the following grade point average definitions:

Honor                           3.75 – 4.00
Scholastic                    3.00 – 3.74
Varsity                           2.99 or below

A team consists of a minimum of six students, two students in each category and a maximum of nine students, one from each category from the same school.  A full team is nine students, three from each category.
Each team member competes in all ten events of the Decathlon and is eligible for individual medals in all ten events. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are awarded for individual events and total scores. Winning teams advance through the local, regional, and state levels of competition. The state champions compete at the national finals.
