Hiring Information for Walk-On Coaches

An SDCOE certificated teacher serving as an athletic coach will be paid a stipend at the end of the season for which the teacher performed coaching duties. The site administrator must route a Personnel Action Form to Human Resources indicating the coaching assignment and its duration and the name of the certificated employee who is completing the assignment.

An employee who is not a full-time certificated teacher with the SDCOE is considered a walk-on coach. Walk-on coaches will be issued a temporary notice of employment by Human Resources and must complete all required pre-employment requirements BEFORE beginning a coaching assignment. The site administrator must route a Personnel Action Form to Human Resources indicating the coaching assignment and its duration. The coaching stipend is paid at the end of the coaching season so the end date of the season must be noted on the Personnel Action Form. If the name of the walk-on coach to be employed is known the name should be indicated on the Personnel Action Form. If Human Resources is needed to assist in recruiting for the coaching assignment, please make that notation on the Personnel Action Form.

Employment requirements for walk-on coach assignments:

  • Proof of a completed TB test
