Information for Early Completion Option (ECO) Candidates

Early Completion Option Guidelines

Senate Bill 57 (Chapter 269, Scott) allows eligible individuals to complete a Commission-approved professional teacher induction program at a faster pace than the full two years generally required to complete all the requirements of professional teacher induction. Candidates in dual programs may not apply for the SB 57 one-year option (ex: Ed Specialist/Multiple Subject).

The SDCOE Teacher Induction Program has set the following guidelines for its Early Completion Option (ECO):

Eligibility

  • Teacher with three or more years of successful classroom teaching experience, as a teacher of record

  • Demonstration of Integrating and Innovating developmental levels for California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) standard 1 and 2 (Continuum of Teaching Practices) PDF

  • Submission of a complete application with all required attachments to btsa@sdcoe.net no later than October 23, 2017 no exceptions.

Procedures

  1. ECO eligibility requirements will be reviewed during the orientation.

  2. Candidate will meet with District Lead to determine whether ECO is a viable option.

  3. Application requirements will be completed and submitted to btsa@sdcoe.net .

  4. SDCOE Teacher Induction program leadership will determine acceptance into the ECO program within 10 days of application being submitted.

  5. Candidate will complete a Payment Agreement for ECO.

ECO Plan

  • Once accepted into ECO, the candidate will continue to complete the Year 1 Induction assignments in Haiku.

  • SDCOE Teacher Induction program leadership will assess candidate progress throughout the year. Candidates who do not meet due date requirements or submit graduate level work, will have their ECO status revoked and complete induction in the traditional two-year time frame.

Completion:

  • ECO candidates will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies required of the Professional Clear Credential.

  • ECO candidates will demonstrate all skills and abilities required of the program.

  • The timeline for completion of the ECO will be a minimum of one year as determined by the Participating Teacher, District Lead, and SDCOE Teacher Induction program leadership.

*You can start gathering the evidence for #2 and #3. #1, #4, #5 and #6 are all completed within your teaching position so those need to wait until the 2017-18 school year starts. ECO is evaluated and approved or denied at the end of October.
