The Language Learners department produces the quarterly research brief, Focus on English Learners, in partnership with the California English Learner Collaboration.
The first issue was published in January 2017.
The goal of the brief is to extend and expand the collaborative work accomplished among county offices of education through the STARlight (Students of Today Achieving Results) publication, which ran from 2004 to 2015.
The debut issue of Focus on English Learners explored the importance of knowing the English learners in our classrooms, schools, and across our districts.
The second issue looks at the key shifts and implications of the state's new language assessment for English learners, the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC).
