Accelerating Efforts to Introduce Youth to Outdoor Experiences
Foundation for Youth Investment 2012 Catalyst Fund
The Catalyst Fund supports organizations that connect underserved youth with outdoor experiences within or near their communities. This funding opportunity must be used to connect youth ages 13-18 to the outdoors. Eligible entities include federal and California tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations, public agencies, school districts, or federally recognized tribes.

After School Education and Safety Program - ASES Grant Renewal
California Department of Education
The After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program provides funding to local educational agencies to create safe physical and emotional environments, educational and literacy programs, and enrichment elements including physical fitness, recreation and coordinated school health. Applicants are strongly encouraged to use research-based curricula and strategies that are aligned to California's state standards and are appropriate for after school audiences. Agriculture and Food Research Initiative - Childhood Obesity Prevention
United States Department of Agriculture
Funding is available to generate new knowledge of the behavioral, social and/or environmental factors that influence childhood obesity and use this information to develop and implement effective family, peer, community and/or school-based interventions for preventing overweight and obesity and promoting healthy behaviors in adolescents (ages 15-19 years). Eligible applicants for Integrated Projects include: 1) colleges and universities; 2) 1994 Land-Grant Institutions; and (3) Hispanic-serving agricultural colleges and universities.

Baseball Tomorrow Fund
Major League Baseball
The Baseball Tomorrow Fund is a joint initiative between Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association designed to promote and enhance the growth of youth participation in baseball and softball. Grants are intended to finance a new program, expand or improve an existing program, undertake a new collaborative effort, or obtain facilities or equipment necessary for youth baseball or softball programs.

Chargers Champions Grant Program
The San Diego Chargers Champions School Grant program was created to assist San Diego County schools with meeting some of the basic physical fitness, nutrition and athletic needs of their students. The program annually provides selected schools with grants of up to $75,000 for high schools; up to $40,000 for middle schools and up to $30,000 for elementary schools.

Children's Health & Wellness Grant
The Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation provides direct support for children in the areas of health and wellness. The Foundation's goal is to provide grants to help many programs that are working hard to make the world a healthier and happier place for kids. Community-Based Partnerships for Childhood Obesity Prevention and Control: Research to Inform Policy
National Institute of Child Health and Human Development/NIH/DHHS
The sponsors provides support to enhance childhood obesity research by fostering the formation of local, state, or regional teams consisting of researchers, policymakers, and other relevant stakeholders in order to identify research questions and hypotheses, design and implement the relevant research, and translate the research into evidence relevant to potential policy efforts in this area. This program will use the NIH Exploratory/Developmental (R21) grant mechanism. Although the size of award may vary with the scope of research proposed, it is expected that applications will stay within the budgetary guidelines for an exploratory/developmental project; direct costs are limited to $275,000 over an R21 two-year period, with no more than $200,000 in direct costs allowed in any single year. The deadlines for receipt of standard applications under this announcement are: February 16, June 16, and October 16 annually.

Community Grants
The Wal-Mart Foundation supports programs and initiatives addressing education, workforce development, economic sustainability, and health and wellness. Health and Wellness examples include programs that support nutrition and active lifestyles, educating people of all ages about their health, preventing and managing chronic disease. Albertsons is accepting grant applications in the following areas: hunger relief, dietary health, and nutrition education. A great source for funding for teachers is the Donors Choose organization which is a very innovative and cool way to connect to your community. A teacher can post a project they need funding for and the community (which can be individuals) select those they wish to support and make donations to that particular project. One organization just recently gave over a million dollars to complete funding for every Donors Choose Project in California. Wow!

National Dairy Council and the National Football League
Funding is available to K-12 schools enrolled in Fuel Up to Play 60. The competitive, nationwide funding program can help your school jumpstart and sustain healthy nutrition and physical activity improvements. Grants for Sports Programs
The LA84 Foundation's mission is to serve youth through sport and to increase knowledge of sport and its impact on people's lives. The grant program funds are primarily intended for the development of youth sports below the elite level and groups and communities underserved by traditional sports programs, including girls, ethnic minorities and the physically challenged. Nonprofit, tax exempt organizations that serve southern California with sports programs for youth ages 6-17 are eligible to apply. For programs beginning between October and December 2012, the application should be completed by June 8, 2012. For programs beginning between January and May 2013, the application should be completed by September 7, 2012.

MetLife Foundation supports projects to empower people to lead healthy, productive lives and strengthen communities. The Foundation makes grants in health, education, civic affairs and culture. Impact Grants
Foundation for Youth Investment
The Impact Fund is designed to provide youth-serving organizations with the resources they need to get underserved youth between 13 and 18 years of age connected to the outdoors. Multiple grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded to select applicants. California nonprofit organizations, public agencies, school districts, and federally recognized tribes that have been in operation for at least one full calendar year are eligible to apply.

Kaiser Permanente Southern California Grants Program
The Kaiser Permanente Southern California Grants Program provides support to nonprofit organizations in Kaiser Permanente service areas throughout Southern California. Current funding priorities include improving community health and obesity prevention. Kaiser Permanente developed the Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) initiative in Southern California to address the increasing obesity epidemic. Eligible projects focus on creating lasting policy, environmental and/or systems changes that support healthy eating and physical activity. Learning Beyond the Classroom
The Mott Foundation's Pathways Out of Poverty program supports initiatives around the U.S. that promote learning beyond the classroom especially for traditionally underserved children and youth -- as a strategy for improving public education. Regular Grant Program
The Weingart Foundation funds non-profit institutions and schools in Southern California that serve low-income children, youth, and the general community. The following seven counties are served by Weingart Foundation grants: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego (Small Grant Program only), Santa Barbara, and Ventura. The Foundation will support capacity building, general operating support, program development, and capital/equipment projects. Large grants for over $25,000 are available by letter of inquiry throughout the year.

Spring 2012 Responsible Sports Community Grant Program
Liberty Mutual provides Responsible Sports Community Grants to non-profit youth sports organizations and educational athletic programs to help defray the many costs of running a successful youth sports program. Once your organization is registered, rally as many members and supporters to participate in the self-paced Responsible Sports coursework. Each credited certification brings your organization one step closer to earning a grant. Fifteen youth sport organizations with the most credited certifications will earn a Responsible Sports Community Grant.

School Garden Grant Application Process
Garden projects may be at any stage of development; planning, construction or operation. For cases in which an applicant facilitates garden projects in more than one school, multiple garden grants may be requested under a single application. In occasional cases, additional funds may be awarded for special projects. In selecting grant recipients, priority will be given to both limited-resource communities and to projects that demonstrate strong buy-in from stakeholders. There is a limit of one garden grant per school.

MLK Day of Service Grants
