105.7 FM Morning Show On-Air Personality 'Nolan' Promotes 'Cool School' Initiative

The San Diego County Office of Education in collaboration with Mission Federal Credit Union and 105.7 FM – The Walrus, is continuing the “Cool School” initiative of on-air personality John Nolan from the classic rock station.

Each week, “Nolan,” co-host of the Nolan & Kim in the Morning show, on 105.7 The Walrus, visits a different San Diego County 2nd or 3rd Grade classroom to read to students. The program offers a wonderful opportunity for children to have a fun look at literacy with the offbeat poetry of authors like Shel Silverstein, the wisdom of Chicken Soup for the Soul, Eric Carle and more! Nolan inspires students with his enthusiastic nature about the importance of reading and all of the benefits that come along with it.

“Nolan was a hit with our 2nd and 3rd graders,” said Andrew Schlegel of the Monarch School. “His enthusiasm is infectious.”

In addition to reading, Nolan also captures short sound bites from the students about what they like to read, who they like to read with, and their reading habits. Nolan produces a short segment on the school, teachers are identified while all students remain anonymous over the air.

Many thanks to Mission Federal Credit Union and 105.7 – The Walrus for their support!
