La Presa Middle School in Spring Valley will start a STEAM
Academy next year for students in grades 4 through 8.
The program will provide pathways for career and college
readiness in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, also
known at STEAM. Through pathways in art, biomedical, engineering, and technology,
STEAM Academy at La Presa will leverage the new Common Core and Next Generation
Science standards to engage students in real-world learning experiences that
combine educational and business goals.
The school is accepting enrollment applications from
families in South County.
Enrollment meetings will be held at the school on Dec. 3 at
6 p.m., Dec. 9 at 9:30 a.m. and Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. Meetings will include an
informational presentation and a walkthrough of the campus, located at 1001
Leland Street in Spring Valley. Enrollment forms are available on La Presa’s website.
Students will be chosen by lottery, and all applications
must be dropped off at the front office of La Presa Middle School no later than
noon on Jan. 16, 2015.
