The Padres treated 75 Monarch School students to a
back-to-school shopping spree at Target in Mission Valley last week.
Each student was paired with a Padres player or front office
volunteer Sept. 17 to pick out clothes and shoes. The students also received a
Padres youth baseball jersey and a backpack filled with souvenirs and school
Monarch educates children in kindergarten through 12th grade
who have been impacted by homelessness. It’s the only school of its kind in the
Monarch is a unique public-private partnership between the
San Diego County Office of Education’s Juvenile Court and Community Schools
and the nonprofit Monarch School Project. The County Office provides teachers
and an accredited education, and the project supplements this program through
academic and enrichment programs including an after-school program, expressive
arts therapy, and counseling.
