Arroyo Vista Charter School Teacher Named SDCCU Classroom Hero

Lauren Shepherd, a teacher at Arroyo Vista Charter School in Chula Vista, was recognized last month through the SDCCU Classroom Heroes program, launched in partnership with iHeartMedia, Inc. San Diego.

Shepherd was nominated for dedication and passion for kids, with her nominator noting that she identifies with the each and every student in her classroom and goes above and beyond her role as a teacher. Her focus is on the kids and she is constantly thinking of out-of-the-box projects to engage them—she dedicates countless hours to before and after school programs like Gate, Robotics, and Garden Club.

SDCCU and iHeartMedia recognized “Classroom Heroes” throughout 2016. Winning teachers were selected to receive a $500 SDCCU Visa® gift card, plus they were recognized as a Classroom Hero on a billboard in their community.

“SDCCU is engaged in many philanthropic activities aimed at making a difference in our local schools. We understand the critical role of teachers in helping to shape the future of today’s youth and contributing to a strong and thriving economy for years to come,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck.
