Applications are now open for the California Foundation Fund's annual FutureBoss program. Up to 40 student finalists will be selected to attend an entrepreneurial inaugural at the University of San Diego and instructor-led sessions at Southwestern Community College. The first 30 applicants will receive a SeaWorld San Diego Theme Park Pass.
Applications are due Feb. 28, and the program starts April 10.
The FutureBoss Program is chaired by Ron Morrison, mayor of National City, and organized by the Foundation’s youth entrepreneurship community council, is a collaborative effort between the Mexican Consulate of San Diego, Wells Fargo Bank, San Diego Gas & Electric, the California Foundation Fund, and 20 local organizations.
“For the past six years, our local students have been formulating incredible business models that create real economic growth,” said Mayor Morrison. He added, “This program identifies entrepreneurial minded students through an integrate network of businesses and non-profits. Last year marked a new level of engagement for the program as more than 1000 high school seniors applied to compete.”
“What is wonderful about this program is to witness the energy, creativity and talent these brilliant minds have, as well as how they develop a sense of entrepreneurs, leaders and real social changers” Consul General of Mexico Marcela Celorio said. She added, “Some of the past generation winners are now successful entrepreneurs and have referred how the program changed their lives.”
The FutureBoss Program includes lessons taught by professional faculty at a university level. Students will participate in the program’s academic components, develop a viable business idea, and turn it into a business plan that will be presented to a panel of judges. Three winners will be awarded a scholarship and an Apple Watch. The first-place youth will receive this year’s Ernst & Young Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Award at its annual gala.
