The five San Diego County Teachers of the Year were honored at half-time
of the nationally-ranked SDSU basketball team’s February 5 victory over
TCU, and were joined moments later in the raucous SDSU student cheering
section by SDSU President Stephen Weber and County Superintendent Randy
Ward for an impromptu photo session.
“Representing nearly 26,000 public school teachers in San Diego
County…men and women who’ve devoted their professional lives to helping
our children learn, grow and develop…we are proud to present the 2011
San Diego County Teachers of the Year,” said Viejas Arena public address
announcer Brian Main.
The teachers’ recognition was in front of another packed house of
12,414, many of whom stood in applause as the teachers were
acknowledged. After introducing each of the five teachers, the
announcement concluded, “Please help the Aztecs honor these true
community heroes, our 2011 San Diego County Teachers of the Year.”
