Students who will be attending San Diego County Office of Education's (SDCOE) 6th Grade Camp in 2014-15 can apply for a scholarship by writing an essay about a positive experience they've had in the outdoors.
Judges will pick 15 students based on essays written in class for the camp scholarships, which are paid for with money endowed by the late William E. VanArsdale, past director of SDCOE's Outdoor Education program.
Teachers can pick the two best essays in their class and mail them to SDCOE. The deadline to submit essays is Feb. 14 at 3:30 p.m. Faxes and late submissions will not be accepted.
Winners will be announced in March.
