Program Description
Friendship School is a special education school located in Imperial Beach. It is operated by the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) in affiliation with the South County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA). Friendship School serves a maximum of 50 students, ages three (3) through twenty-one (21).
Each student has been identified as requiring an Individualized Education Program through a collaborative effort on the part of parents, local district representatives and SDCOE staff. Student disabilities include severe to profound cognitive and /or physical disabilities and require instruction in a structured setting with a small student/staff ratio. Friendship School classes are designed to provide instruction that is functional and essential to the future needs of the students. Many students are medically fragile and require specialized physical health care services in order to attend school.
Mission Statement
The mission at Friendship School is to provide appropriate special education and related services to students with disabilities in order to promote development of their potential, and improve their motivation, achievement, and personal well-being.
