The Thriving Communities Summit: Advancing Whole Child Success Through Collective Responsibility, presented by the San Diego County Office of Education and the County of San Diego in support of the Live Well San Diego vision, is a free, one-day event on Nov. 17 at the Town and Country Resort. Parking is included along with continental breakfast and a plated lunch. Register to attend this can't-miss event by Oct. 29.
This summit, previously the Live Well Advance Conference and School Summit, continues the same mission of connecting our region’s community and education sectors to elevate well-being through community schools and improving outcomes for the whole child and every person in every community.
The Thriving Communities Summit will bring together the expertise, knowledge, and community partners that school leaders need to meet the moment and meet the needs of every child.
Together, we can continue to bridge programs and services for healthy families with our school communities, so every child can thrive in school and in life.
Dee Hankins - Keynote Speaker

From Suitcase to Stages: A Foster Child's Journey
Dee entered foster care at just two months old and spent much of his childhood moving from home to home, struggling with feelings of rejection, trust issues, and anger. Statistically, the odds were against him, many young men in foster care drop out of school or end up in prison. But a life-changing scholarship program opened his eyes, showed him that people do care, and gave him the push he needed to pursue education. He went on to graduate from California State University, Long Beach with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. Today, he uses his story and his gift for speaking to encourage resilience, inspire hope, and remind us that while life throws curveballs, even curveballs can be hit for home runs.
