Black College Expo 2025 Set for Jan. 30 in San Diego
High school juniors and seniors have the opportunity to connect with historically black colleges and universities and have the potential for on-the-spot college scholarships and acceptances awarded to qualifying students at the 2025 Black College Expo on Jan. 30.
The expo will include representatives from more than 30 historically black colleges and universities (HBCU). Students can learn more about postsecondary options, scholarships, and admission. There will also be seminars on financial aid, life in college versus high school, why you should attend an HBCU, and other helpful topics.
In addition, representatives from local, regional, and military colleges and universities will be attending, providing information about their programs and application processes.
Students of all racial and ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to attend the expo, hosted by the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) in partnership with the National College Resources Foundation, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the MLK Center at Bayview Baptist Church in San Diego.
“The Black College Expo is an incredible opportunity for our students,” said Dr. Gloria E. Ciriza, San Diego County superintendent of schools. “It’s a welcoming space filled with possibilities for our young people at a time in their lives when decisions can feel overwhelming. The expo is designed to make connections, grow understanding, and get access tools to for their future success.”
High school students, families, and education professionals can register for free. Scholarships are available with the deadline of Jan. 13 to apply. Interested students must submit an essay of 500 words or less about “Why is a college education important to me.”
The Black College Expo was developed more than 20 years ago to empower underrepresented students and help them with access to higher education. National College Resources Foundation has helped more than 500,000 students get into college, and helped students connect with over $1 billion in scholarships and grants.

San Diego County educators are invited to join SDCOE in Equity is Love in Action: Conversations in Community, a free series in May to continue networking, sharing, and learning how to advance educational equity in schools.

Students from Canyon Crest Academy in the San Dieguito Union High School District have been named California State Champions in the 2026 Presidential AI Challenge.
