The San Diego County Board of Education unanimously passed a resolution at its July 2022 meeting honoring the Friends of San Pasqual Academy. Resolution 2022-14 reads:

WHEREAS Friends of San Pasqual Academy is a non-profit organization founded in 2003 that assists foster teens of San Diego County in their endeavor to become confident, productive, contributing, highly educated, successful adults; and

WHEREAS Friends of San Pasqual Academy has been there to ensure that each foster teen of San Pasqual Academy has the opportunity to experience and participate in traditional high school activities; and

WHEREAS throughout the years, including the fires of 2008 and the Pandemic of 2020-21, Friends of San Pasqual Academy has supported the athletic teams, holiday parties, individual student birthday recognitions, prom, graduation ceremonies, and so much more; and

WHEREAS through Friends of San Pasqual Academy’s efforts, San Pasqual Academy secured a new football field, a new softball field, a refurbished cafeteria, and renovated student cottages and alumni housing; and

WHEREAS the San Diego County Board of Education supports San Pasqual Academy and its specialized staff that provides a safe, stable, caring, supportive academic environment for every foster teen; and

WHEREAS with the support they receive while attending San Pasqual Academy, students there have had a high school graduation rate exceeding 95% for the past 20 years — significantly higher than the local and/or national averages for teens in foster care; and

WHEREAS Friends of San Pasqual Academy ensures that each graduate of San Pasqual Academy receives scholarship support to pursue a college education or trade school and continues that support for those San Pasqual Academy alumni who elect to earn a post-graduate degree; and

WHEREAS we are now seeing San Pasqual Academy graduates completing their four-year university programs, with some alumni going on to graduate school; and

WHEREAS the County Board of Education recognizes the hundreds of volunteers and the Board of Directors of San Pasqual Academy — Joan Scott, Dagmar Helgager, Kathy Lathrum, Lois Jones, Teri Summerhays, Andrea Reynolds and Karen Ventura — for their unwavering support of the teens of San Pasqual Academy.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the San Diego County Board of Education thanks and recognizes the Friends of San Pasqual Academy for its commitment to and support of the students of San Pasqual Academy.
