Board Resolution Endorses March 1–7 as National School Social Work Week

San Diego County Board of Education endorses March 1–7 as National School Social Work Week. Resolution No. 2026-07 reads:

WHEREAS the superintendent of schools joins the School Social Work Association of America in recognizing and empowering the work of school social workers; and

WHEREAS there are over 150 school social workers working in San Diego County schools every day to provide support to students, teachers, staff, parents, and families; and

WHEREAS school social workers serve as vital members of the education team, playing a central role in achieving an equitable and positive learning environment for all; and

WHEREAS school social workers, being licensed mental health professionals in schools in the United States, provide necessary assessment, interventions, counseling, family outreach, and community referrals; and

WHEREAS school social workers are especially skilled in identifying and providing services to students who face serious challenges to school success, including poverty, disability, discrimination, abuse, addiction, bullying, loss of a loved one, and other barriers to learning; and

WHEREAS school social workers maintain knowledge of school culture and school climate, which are necessary for responsible school safety planning; and

WHEREAS the school social work profession is rooted in social justice and advocacy, and school social workers specialize in empowering marginalized youth, families, and communities; and

WHEREAS school districts and local educational agencies should continue to work with school social workers to address students’ social, emotional, physical, mental health, and environmental needs so that students may achieve academic success.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the San Diego County Board of Education hereby declares March 1–7, 2026, as National School Social Work Week and hereby affirms that the San Diego County Office of Education is committed to celebrating the dedication, passion, and perseverance of school social workers in San Diego County.
