Board Resolution Proclaims February 2026 as Career and Technical Education Month

San Diego County Board of Education proclaims February 2026 as Career and Technical Education Month. Resolution No. 2026-05 reads:

WHEREAS San Diego County is home to a competitive, global, innovative economy and requires workers who are prepared for skilled professions;

WHEREAS the San Diego County Board of Education has affirmed the importance of career technical education (CTE) through Board Goal 1: Connect the educational experience to the world of work, to guarantee all students graduate prepared for college, career, and beyond;

WHEREAS CTE ensures that competitive and skilled workers are ready, willing, and capable of holding jobs in high-wage, high-skill priority sector career fields as identified by the San Diego Workforce Partnership, our local workforce development board, including the priority sectors of information and communication technologies and digital media, healthcare, life sciences and biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, energy, construction and utilities, education and human development, and public administration, that are vital in keeping our region competitive in the global economy;

WHEREAS CTE matches employability skills with workforce demand and provides relevant academic and technical coursework, leading to industry-recognized credentials for secondary, postsecondary, and adult learners;

WHEREAS secondary CTE is associated with a lower probability of dropping out of high school and a higher likelihood of graduating on time;

WHEREAS students at schools with highly integrated rigorous academic and CTE programs are significantly more likely to meet college and career readiness benchmarks than students at schools with less integrated programs;

WHEREAS CTE affords students the opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills, and credentials needed to secure careers in growing, high-demand fields  ensures that employers have access to a qualified and thriving workforce, ensuring our region is a strong and competitive economy;

WHEREAS the benefit of CTE is a healthier region, stronger communities, and individuals who are better prepared to care for themselves and their families.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the San Diego County Board of Education does hereby proclaim February 2026 as National Career and Technical Education Month.
