Del Lago Academy Student Mural Unveiled at Washington Park

The Escondido Union High School District is proud to announce that the City of Escondido held a ceremonial unveiling of a new student mural on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Washington Park. This mural, designed by Jessica Huynh, an 11th grade student at Del Lago Academy, was submitted for review and approval by the City of Escondido and the Escondido Public Art Commission. Del Lago Academy teacher Soudabeh “Sudi” Memarzadeh supported Jessica throughout the submission process.

Over the summer, Jessica brought her design and vision to life with the help of Del Lago Academy students Stephen Lucido, Christina Huynh, Ethan Brecht, Diego Vicente, and Valley High School teacher Charlie Mejia as well as Orange Glen High School teacher Aled Anaya. Together, they completed the mural, which was celebrated by Council Members Consuelo Martinez and Judy Fitzgerald.

Del Lago Academy Principal Kristin Kalish and Superintendent Jon Petersen attended the event to show their support for the outstanding work of the Escondido Union High School District students. The district remains committed to empowering students to make a positive impact in the community. Projects like the Washington Park murals offer students invaluable real-world experience, making a lasting mark on our community. This is the third consecutive year that students have participated in the Washington Park mural project.
