The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) and Cox Communications celebrated San Diego County’s 51 school district teachers of the year at the 35th annual “Cox Presents: Salute to Teachers” event April 25, 2025.

Most of the school district winners will now go on to compete for one of five spots as San Diego County Teachers of the Year. Those honorees are expected to be announced by June 15.

Sponsors of “Cox Presents: Salute to Teachers,” brought to you by San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU), include returning presenting sponsor SDCCU as well as Murray Lampert Design, Build, Remodel, and iHeart Radio.

“Teachers shape the lives of students every day, inspiring them by creating spaces where every student feels seen, supported, and empowered,” said Dr. Gloria E. Ciriza, San Diego County superintendent of schools. “We’re honored to partner with organizations like Cox Communications and San Diego County Credit Union to shine a light on and celebrate the more than 20,000 educators who show up every day to help shape a more just, compassionate, and hopeful future for all kids.”

As part of the partnership, Cox Communications will produce a 30-minute “Cox Presents: Salute to Teachers” television special to recognize local teachers, spotlight the Teachers of the Year, and share highlights from the reception. The show will debut on Cox’s YurView network (Channel 4 on Cox and Spectrum) in the fall.

SDCOE and Cox Communications have collaborated on saluting our local teachers for more than 30 years.

“At Cox Communications, we're passionate about celebrating the educators who ignite curiosity and inspire achievement in our students,” said Chanelle Hawken, market vice president for Cox Communications. “Salute to Teachers is our way of honoring these dedicated professionals who are shaping the future of San Diego County.”
