Escondido and San Pasqual High Schools Spread Holiday Cheer with Handmade Toy Cars
Students from Escondido High School and San Pasqual High School made more than 200 wooden toy cars to bring holiday joy to children at Lincoln Elementary and Farr Elementary. The heartwarming project, initiated by San Pasqual Woodshop Teacher Brandon Tarrac, began two years ago and expanded this year to include students at Farr Elementary.
On December 13, 2024, children in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten at Lincoln and Farr Elementary Schools received an early holiday surprise. EHS and SPHS students arrived wearing fun Santa hats, bringing not only the handmade wooden toy cars, but also games to share and play with. The playground buzzed with excitement as children raced their new toy cars and played alongside the highschoolers.
“This is so much fun. I love when the kids come to share the toy cars,” said Paraeducator Ivette Razo. “I even recognize a few of them from when they were little and attended school here. The students, some of whom may not have many gifts this year, are so grateful for their kindness.”
Mr. Tarrac reflected on the impact of the project, now in its third year: It’s amazing how such a simple toy can bring so much joy to so many. I hope that one day, one of these children will join my class and continue this tradition of giving.”
This annual project exemplifies the power of community and the spirit of giving, creating lasting memories for both the children receiving the gifts and the high school students who made them. The Escondido Union High School District is proud of its students for their hard work and for spreading holiday cheer.
