Expand Your Horizons - Two Shores Program Looks to Connect Students to France

The Two Shores Intercultural Exchange Program, which partners schools in San Diego County with similar schools in Spain and the Philippines, is expanding to France and is inviting local high school French classes to participate.

The Two Shores program provides students with authentic and meaningful collaboration with other students, their own age and in their target languages. Participating schools get the tools to expand horizons, remove barriers, and promote communication, intercultural understanding and global competence, through a linguistic, cultural, and educational exchange. “This is a very exciting opportunity for students to practice their French and expand their horizons and world view by interacting with students from around the world,” said Eva Pando-Solís, world languages coordinator for San Diego County Office of Education. “We already have schools lined up in France who are anxious to be paired up with teachers and students here in San Diego. I believe this will be a wonderful addition to our connections to schools in the Philippines and Spain, where we have more than a dozen local schools participating.”

The Two Shores Program is designed to:

  • Establish international ties and a collaborative framework for participating schools in San Diego County, Spain, the Philippines, and France
  • Promote the use of the Spanish, Filipino, French, and English languages in the context of authentic communicative situations for students and teachers 
  • Advance the development of multicultural and global competencies, and enhance the awareness of diverse sociocultural realities
  • Support instruction that is aligned to the educational standards of participating countries
  • Facilitate and advance the exchange of educational experiences, resources, materials, methods, and best practices among participants
