The U.S. Department of Agriculture has issued pandemic flexibilities for districts and schools through June of 2023 to support safe school reopenings and healthy, nutritious meals.
Through the 2022-23 school year, districts and schools will be able to continue with special meal flexibilities and waivers to accommodate student meals determined by the learning models being implemented for each district. Parents can visit their school district's webpage to learn more about the feeding plan for their children's school.
To ensure that parents remain aware of all available food distribution sites for children, we are providing links below to ongoing feeding sites operated by Feeding San Diego, the San Diego Food Bank, and 2-1-1 San Diego, and information about the Pandemic EBT program.
El Departamento de Agricultura de los Estados Unidos ha extendido flexibilidades por la pandemia para distritos y escuelas hasta junio del 2023 para apoyar la reapertura segura de las escuelas y las comidas saludables y nutritivas.

After nearly 30 rounds of spelling and vocabulary challenges, Duaa Ouznali from Bright Horizon Academy is the new countywide spelling bee champion, correctly spelling the winning word droshky, a public carriage used in Russia.

The San Diego County Board of Education adopted a resolution reaffirming the San Diego County Office of Education's commitment to vulnerable students and families.

SDCOE works closely with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and CAL FIRE San Diego to help spark interest in careers in fire safety and help establish a steady workforce pipeline into this critical field.

Forty-one San Diego County schools, the most since the program began in 2021, have been recognized as 2025 Purple Star Schools. The California Department of Education’s Purple Star School Designation Program publicly recognizes schools that are committed and equipped to meet the unique needs of military-connected students and their families.
