Getting to Know SDCOE: Elsa Garcia English Language Development Assistant
Dependable. Knowledgeable. A committed leader. Fun.
Elsa Garcia, an English language development assistant at the San Diego SOAR Academy East Mesa JCCS campus, is described as all these things and more.
“Elsa is not a side participant in anything she does,” said Educational Specialist Dorothy Corona. “She is one of those people that no one is disappointed to run into because she gives honest feedback when asked. She supports both teachers and students in whichever classroom she is in and is dependable to show up when she says she will.”
When Garcia is not directly supporting students, she can be found participating in school-wide committees that elevate SOAR Academy and the people who learn and work there. She is a member of the positive behavioral interventions and supports team, the social committee, and often attends professional development sessions to strengthen her skills in the classroom.
Corona, who nominated Garcia for Classified Employee of the Year, said, “Everyone wants Elsa in their classroom. Not only does she help boost morale, but she also is an asset in the learning environment.”
