Getting to Know SDCOE: Anabel Mireles
To the Expanded Learning team, Anabel Mireles is much more than a program clerk. She's an indispensable expert.
Mireles has been with Expanded Learning for seven years, where she supports local schools by ensuring timely and accurate completion of attendance reports. She oversees attendance data for all 43 local educational agencies in the After School Education and Safety program.
“Her organizational skills and attention to detail are evident in everything she does,” said Davina Hale, the project specialist who nominated her. “Beyond her technical skills, Anabel is a dedicated team player, always willing to offer help with any task.”
Mireles approaches her work humbly and with compassion for others, said Dr. Lisa Johnson Davis, coordinator with the Expanded Learning team.
“In our discussions of belonging and othering at SDCOE, there are certain people that shine in their abilities to foster human connection and build relationships,” Johnson Davis said. “Anabel shines bright! She has a unique ability to think first with the us in mind rather than the I.”
Not only is she focused on the growth of students and colleagues, but she also places an emphasis on her own learning, embracing many of the professional growth opportunities at SDCOE and is on track to next year become the first person in her family to earn a bachelor’s degree.
