Kathia Lopez Named 2025 SDCOE Classified Employee of the Year
Kathia Lopez shows deep sensitivity to the needs of families, prioritizing effective communication and empathy to build trust.
This is one of the reasons she was nominated and selected by her peers to be SDCOE’s Classified School Employee of the Year.
“While all nominees had wonderful recommendations, it was Kathia’s leadership and impact both internally and with the community we serve that stood out,” a member of the selection panel said.
The parent education specialist started at SDCOE in 2015 as a parent and family liaison with Juvenile Court and Community Schools. In her current role with the Multilingual Education and Global Achievement team, Lopez plays a vital part in enhancing the connection between schools and the community through innovative parent education sessions designed to empower aspiring parent leaders.
“She adapts seamlessly to various roles and fosters a productive environment for colleagues and parents,” said Izela Jacobo, the senior director who nominated her.
Lupita Salmeron, Migrant Regional Parent Advisory Council representative from Fallbrook Union Elementary School District, shared that Kathia’s sensitivity, empathy, and commitment to parents is inspiring and worthy of recognition. “Her ability to build trust, provide meaningful support, and go above and beyond to connect families with resources makes a lasting impact,” said Alejandro Tamayo, project specialist with Migrant Education Program Region 9. A committed lifelong learner, Lopez seeks professional growth and embraces challenges as opportunities for improvement. Lopez guides and mentors new team members and helps teams in other departments and divisions in support of our students. “This commitment to fostering a supportive and productive environment not only strengthens team dynamics but also promotes a culture of shared success among colleagues, supervisors, and the wider community,” Jacobo said.
