Low-Cost Computers Available in El Cajon

Low-Cost Computers Available in El Cajon
A mother received an affordable computer through an SDCOE event.

Families in East County can get used laptop and desktop computers loaded with educational software for as little as $100 at a drive-thru event organized by the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) and Computers 2 Kids.

The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon May 4 at Granite Hills High School, 1719 Madison Avenue in El Cajon. Debit and credit cards will be accepted along with cash.

Those who wish to get one of the computers are asked to register in advance to ensure a computer will be available. Walk-ups will also be accommodated if possible.

"This is a great partnership that helps SDCOE in its ongoing work to make sure every student has the opportunity and access to thrive," said Dr. Paul Gothold, San Diego County superintendent of schools.

Each refurbished computer includes Windows and Microsoft Office as well as antivirus and education-related software. There will also be an opportunity to sign up for internet access.

Thousands of families have received computers through a partnership between SDCOE and Computers 2 Kids, which has been distributing computers to low-income families since 2004 to help reduce the digital divide between those who have access to technology and those who don’t.
