Mark Lantsberger Named President of the Computer Science Teachers Association San Diego Chapter
Mark Lantsberger, computer science coordinator at the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE), has been elected president of the San Diego chapter of the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA). An international organization of TK-12 educators, CSTA unites, supports, and empowers educators to enhance the quality, accessibility, and inclusivity of computer science education.
Lantsberger is a 28-year computer science and math teacher veteran. He was the Poway Unified School District and San Diego County Teacher of the Year, and a California Teacher of the Year finalist in 2017. In his fifth year at SDCOE, Lantsberger supports teachers and administrators throughout the county in understanding the importance, content, and pedagogy around computer science education. These activities range from coaching individual teachers all the way through helping districts envision their path toward equitable computer science implementation across their system.
“I am honored to lead this group of dedicated educators and look forward to the opportunity to expand computer science teacher quality and accessibility throughout the county,” said Lantsberger. “Many times there is only one computer science teacher on a school campus so I hope to build a broader community of support to exchange ideas and best practices. CSTA and our own local chapter are dedicated to supporting great teachers doing great teaching.”
Lantsberger earned his bachelor of science in mathematics with a computer science minor and his teaching credential from CSU East Bay (Hayward). In addition to Poway Unified, he has taught in Northern California; Washington; Virginia Beach, and Naples, Italy. His term for CSTA is two years.
