Register now for the 2026 San Diego Black College Expo Feb. 12

High school juniors and seniors can connect with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and have the potential for on-the-spot college scholarships for those who apply and acceptances awarded to qualifying students at the 2026 Black College Expo on Feb. 12.

The expo includes representatives from more than 50 Historically Black Colleges and Universities, as well as representatives from local and state universities, the military, workforce training programs, and community organizations, providing information about their programs and the application processes.

Many of the HBCUs offer acceptance on the spot to students who qualify. Scholarships are also awarded throughout the event. Interested students must submit an essay of 500 words or less about “Why is a college education important to me,” to be eligible for a scholarship. The deadline to submit an essay is Feb. 2.

The expo offers students the chance to learn more about postsecondary options, scholarships, and admission. There are also seminars offered on various topics that in the past have included financial aid, life in college versus high school, why you should attend an HBCU.

Students of all racial and ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to attend the expo, hosted by the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) in partnership with the National College Resources Foundation, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the MLK Center at Bayview Baptist Church in San Diego.

“The Black College Expo is more than an event — it’s a gateway to access and belonging,” said Dr. Gloria E. Ciriza, San Diego County Superintendent of Schools. “It opens doors for our students to explore their futures in a space where they are seen, supported, and inspired. By connecting them with resources and opportunities, the expo helps every young person feel that college is within their reach.”

High school students, families, and education professionals can register for free.

The Black College Expo was developed more than 20 years ago to empower underrepresented students and help them with access to higher education. National College Resources Foundation has helped more than 500,000 students get into college, and helped students connect with over $1 billion in scholarships and grants.
