SDCOE Seeks Student Host for 2026 Academic League Broadcast

SDCOE Seeks Student Host for 2026 Academic League Broadcast

High school students looking for their opportunity to shine — the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) is searching for an outgoing teen to serve as the on-air host for the 2026 Academic League finals.

Learn more and submit your application online.

The student host will be the face of the San Diego County Academic League during two live semi-final matches and the championship on May 20 and 21. The host will welcome viewers and contestants, introduce coaches and the moderator, and return at the end of each match to congratulate winners, thank participants, and invite the audience to the next broadcast. The role is a paid position, with compensation at $17 per hour for rehearsals, shows, prep time, and possible additional speaking engagements.

“This is your chance to bring energy and personality to one of our county’s most exciting academic competitions,” said Bill Britt, SDCOE media production supervisor. “We’re looking for someone who can help make the show shine.”

The student host will attend six to 10 hours of in-person studio rehearsals at SDCOE’s main campus in Linda Vista and receive coaching from Britt, who has extensive on-air experience, and other professionals on the iTV team. Responsibilities also include practicing scripts, participating in studio rehearsals with a full crew, and helping prepare promotional segments for live airing.

A complimentary meal will be provided during the May 20 semi-finals break. The host will also appear at the June San Diego County Board of Education meeting to introduce the winning team.

For past student hosts, the experience is unforgettable.

Blaze Rice Student Host for Academic League 2025 poses on set

“My name is Blaze Rice, and I was the 2025 Academic League student host. I had an incredible time working alongside the iTV crew — it was the first time I’d really done anything like this,” Rice shared at the June meeting of the San Diego County Board of Education. “It was scary at first, but with the support of everyone around me, I overcame that and I’m eternally grateful. About a year from now I’ll be heading to L.A. to study film, and I really hope to make it in the industry. But I’ll never forget that I started my career here, and it’s been a wonderful experience.”

Interested students must complete the application by Saturday, Nov. 8 at 5 p.m.
