Local Judges Present SOAR Academy YTC With CDE Civic Learning Award
SOAR Academy Youth Transition Campus (YTC) recently received a visit from Administrative Presiding Justice Judith McConnell from the Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, Division One to present the school with its Honorable Mention for the State Civic Learning Award.
The awards are handed out yearly by the California Department of Education. SOAR Academy YTC was the only school in the county to be recognized and was the first court school ever to submit an application.
The school was recognized for the civics lessons that took place as students created projects for the Aspen Challenge, a program that challenges young people to design solutions to critical issues facing humanity. Learn more about their projects.
Judge McConnell was joined by Superior Court Judge Marisa Bejarano, who presides over juvenile justice cases. Board member Guadalupe González, Joseph Clevenger, assistant superintendent of student services and programs, JCCS leadership and staff were all in attendance to receive the award.
