Student Mural Unveiled in Escondido Park
The City of Escondido held a ceremonial unveiling last week of a new student mural at Washington Park. The mural, designed by Domanick Valdivia, a senior at Orange Glen High School, was submitted for review and approval by the City of Escondido and the Escondido Public Art Commission.
Over the summer, Valdivia brought his design and vision to life with the help of Del Lago Academy student Alex Cross, Valley High School teacher Charlie Mejia, and Orange Glen High School teacher Aled Anaya. Together, they completed the mural, which was celebrated by Mayor Dane White and Councilwoman Consuelo Martinez at the unveiling. Councilwoman Martinez shared, “It’s great to see our community come together at Washington Park. The student art has made it an even more inviting place.”
Orange Glen High School Principal Michael Santos and Escondido Union High School District Assistant Superintendent Dr. Courtney Goode attended the event to show their support for the outstanding work of the Escondido Union High School District students.
“The district remains committed to empowering students to make a positive impact in the community,” said a spokesperson. “Projects like the Washington Park murals offer students invaluable real-world experience, making a lasting mark on our community. This is the third consecutive year that students have participated in the Washington Park mural project.”
