Student Spotlight: Anthony

The Juvenile Court and Community Schools (JCCS) student representative on the San Diego County Board of Education for December was Anthony, a sophomore at Escondido Community School.

Anthony has been recognized for consistently completing schoolwork assignments with great attention to detail and for always attending school. He is proactive during class discussions and reaches out whenever he needs assistance.

“He has been an integral part of his school community by consistently demonstrating perseverance and a strong work ethic,” said Principal Dr. Oscar Felix. “With the help of his parents, teachers, and staff, Anthony has grown into a resilient and responsible young man.”

Outside of school, Anthony excels at rugby and hopes to attend college and study business.

He is especially grateful to his teachers and staff who have helped him grow during his time at the school.

“They made me feel welcome and comfortable with their friendly disposition,” he said. “Not just with me, but everyone at our school.”

Felix said the staff is “extremely proud” of Anthony’s accomplishments as a student because of his great strengths and talents, “are confident he will be successful in whatever endeavor he chooses.”

Each month, the San Diego County Board of Education recognizes a student from JCCS at its regular meeting.

"In addition to giving the board a chance to honor a student, participation in the meeting also gives students valuable experience in leadership," said Dr. Paul Gothold, San Diego County superintendent of schools.
