Student Spotlight: Edith

Student Spotlight: Edith

The Juvenile Court and Community Schools student representative on the San Diego County Board of Education for September was Edith, a senior at Global Academy of California.

“Edith has made a lasting impact as a dedicated student and also as a leader on campus,” said Principal Dr. Floyd North. "Her perseverance, strong sense of purpose, and commitment to growth make her a true role model for her peers."

While enrolled at Global Academy, she has taken college courses at both Southwestern College and Palomar College, including English as a Second Language, counseling, art, and criminal justice. She is also an active member of both Friday Night Live and Bring Change to Mind, youth leadership organizations that support student health and wellness.

Health and well-being are important to Edith, who starts each day working out at the gym and enjoys playing soccer regularly.

After earning her associate’s degree at Southwestern, she plans to join the police academy.

“At Global Academy, I’ve found a place where I truly belong,” Edith said. “The support from my teachers and peers makes me feel that I am part of a community that believes in me and helps me succeed.”

She is grateful to her teacher, Cecilia Rodriguez, for believing in her and pushing her to reach her full potential, and to her parents for their support.

Edith offers this advice to other students: “Never give up and always give your best effort. Even when things feel tough, pushing through helps you grow and succeed.”

As part of its efforts to highlight transformational learning experiences for students, the San Diego County Board of Education recognizes a student from Juvenile Court and Community Schools at its regular monthly meeting.
