Student Spotlight: Erik
The Juvenile Court and Community Schools student representative on the San Diego County Board of Education for April was Erik, a senior at Global Academy.
The Global Academy staff selected Erik because of his involvement in the school community and his commitment to academics. He’s actively involved in Friday Night Live (FNL) and Bring Change to Mind (BC2M) clubs and is also taking college courses.
“As a member of the BC2M planning committee, he is helping organize a mental health fair in the South Region. Through FNL, Erik has taken on a leadership role, playing a key part in developing a program that empowers youth to lead healthy, substance-free lifestyles,” said Principal Floyd North.
“The team of educators that serve Erik say he is an absolute joy to have and work with,” North continued. “They admire his work ethic and commitment to self-improvement.”
Erik is on track to graduate in June 2025 and plans to continue studying while working.
“I am very thankful for all the help I’ve received, which has helped me with my English and have dual enrollment at Southwestern College,” Erik said at the meeting. “After graduation, I will continue at Southwestern College and pursue a degree in criminal justice and focus on forensics.”
He thanked his teachers, who have been supportive during his three years at the school, as well as the school staff and his family.
“My teachers not only assist with academics but also provide guidance beyond the classroom,” he said. “They take the time to understand my individual needs and help me in any way they can.”
He advises other students to remember the teachers are there to support you so communicate your needs and try to stay on top of your work.
