The Best Local Theatre Teacher Award Ballot is Open

The Best Local Theatre Teacher Award Ballot is Open

As part of the Broadway San Diego Awards, SDCCU is sending the winning teacher to the 2022 Jimmy® Awards in New York.

San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, is asking the community to nominate and vote for the Best Local Theatre Teacher. The Best Local Theatre Teacher Award is part of the Broadway San Diego Awards, a competition for high school students who are talented in musical theater, including vocal, dance and acting performance. The winning teacher will receive a trip for two to New York City to attend the 2022 Jimmy® Awards, also known as The National High School Musical Theatre Awards™.

Students, parents, family members and friends can nominate and vote for a deserving theatre teacher in San Diego County who has made a positive difference in their life, the life of a child or in the community. To nominate and vote, visit sdccu.com/theatreteacher and nominate a local theatre teacher. Once a teacher is nominated and approved, the voting begins! Voters can return to the page daily through May 13. Nominations and voting will close on May 13 at 5 p.m. The Best Local Theatre Teacher Award will be presented at the 2022 Broadway San Diego Awards on Sunday, May 29 at the Balboa Theatre in San Diego. For the official rules, visit sdccu.com/sweepstakes.

The 2022 Broadway San Diego Awards, sponsored by SDCCU and held in collaboration with Broadway San Diego, is a unique scholarship opportunity for talented high school students who have chosen to pursue a career in musical theatre. This is the eighth year that Broadway San Diego is producing the competition locally — it is the local branch of the National High School Musical Theatre Awards which has been in existence since 2009. Both the local and national competitions are programs of the Nederlander Organization.

The San Diego high school competition of the Broadway San Diego Awards will be held at the historic Balboa Theatre in Downtown San Diego on Sunday, May 29. It will include twenty leading performers, along with awarding Best Musical, Best Local Theatre Teacher and the top 5 Best Essay winners. The winning performers and teachers will be flown to New York City for a week of intensive training before they compete in the national finals, The National High School Musical Theatre Awards, on a Broadway stage for $10,000 toward a college scholarship on Monday, June 27.
