Meet the Board
Dr. Gregg Robinson
Gregg Robinson was elected again to the board in 2020 after serving previously from 2013 to 2016. He represents District 1, which includes most of the City of San Diego.
Board Member Robinson is a lifelong educator, having taught in the K-12, community college, and university systems. He is the first in his family to go to college, proudly earning a Bachelor of Arts and a Ph.D. in the sociology of education from UC San Diego. He has taught in San Diego Unified as a substitute teacher; at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore as a visiting scholar; at the University of Texas, San Antonio; and eventually was able to come home to San Diego as the chair of the Behavioral Science Department at Grossmont College. Board Member Robinson has conducted research into the impact of poverty on students, teachers, and schools — having published a number of papers that grew out of this research.
Board Member Robinson's volunteer work in community organizations has been diverse. He served as the president of the Affordable Housing Coalition of San Diego, and was awarded Activist of the Year by Empower San Diego in 2009 and a Merit Award as an Outstanding Housing Advocate by the SD Housing Federation for his work supporting renters' rights. He is a member of the educational reform group Educators For the Future, served as vice president of the Peninsula Community Planning Board from 2001 to 2005, and was chair of that organization's Traffic subcommittee during that period of time.
