The San Diego County Board of Education has begun the search for the next superintendent of schools to lead the San Diego County Office of Education, serve the region's most vulnerable students, and support school leaders, teachers, and students across the county. In October 2023, current superintendent of schools Dr. Paul Gothold announced his plans to retire in June 2024. The County Board of Education hired Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates (HYA) to conduct the search for the new superintendent.
An important part of the search is to engage the community to gather feedback from educational partners regarding what they would like to see in their next superintendent. The board welcomes your input at a community forum on Dec. 11 and through an online survey. The online survey will be available in English and Spanish to gather input through 22.
