Project-Based Learning

The Future Ready PBL Framework is designed to help you evaluate a new project, or one you've done before, and find ways to power it up! You can also use these elements as you design a project from scratch. Below you will find resources that accompany each of the elements of project-based learning.

The project is centered on a driving question that is motivating, compelling and open-ended enough to sustain student inquiry for the duration of the project. There is more than one way to approach the project, with opportunities for exploration, research, discussion and debate.

Students make connections and hone technical and essential skills while applying learning to the real world through  projects that are meaningful, relevant and impactful for students, their community or local industry.

Projects are designed to ensure all students meet or exceed specific knowledge, skills and abilities. These objectives are clearly understood through well designed rubrics. Lessons and activities are designed to ensure students meet competencies. Students are assessed for skill development and mastery through a variety of means.

The project provides opportunities for hands-on learning, outside of class/school experiences, and connects students to community members, industry experts or mentors. Experiences build context, serve as a learning opportunity and provide a model for their work.

Critique and revision is a process that requires sustained engagement and iterative cycles that include constructive feedback delivered  by peers, teachers, and industry partners. Students have multiple opportunities to reflect upon and incorporate feedback before presenting their final product. The process is guided by a rubric and/or structured protocol.

Students demonstrate, apply or exhibit their work for an authentic audience who has  a meaningful connection to the project.
