Accessing valuable post-secondary data
The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) believes all students should have access and opportunity to attend college if they choose. To support that work, SDCOE is partnering with districts to track the progress of students in college and better understand college attendance, persistence, and graduation rates.
SDCOE has provided funding for an annual subscription to the National Student Clearinghouse for all districts with high schools. The included about 90 high schools, with alternative high schools folded in the following year.
The National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization founded in 1993. It provides high schools with longitudinal data on postsecondary enrollment, persistence, and graduation at over 2,600 colleges and universities across the United States.
The NSC information will allow SDCOE to conduct research around countywide rates of postsecondary enrollment and to design services to help schools and districts improve equitable access to postsecondary options. In addition, districts and schools will have data on what happens to their students when they leave K-12 systems, enabling them to make more informed decisions.
