Early Completion Option (ECO)

The CCTC-approved San Diego County Office of Education Teacher Induction Program provides the Early Completion Option (ECO) to all qualifying program participants. All Teacher Induction candidates enrolled in the program are apprised of the opportunity to apply for this option. This option is intended to serve experienced and exceptional candidates.

Notes:

  • The criteria below are used to establish a baseline of eligibility to apply. Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria and submission of a complete application does not guarantee approval as an ECO candidate.
  • An ECO application will be approved or denied based on the whole of the application, rather than individual components.
  • Minimum eligibility criteria and the application process are subject to change; If viewing this webpage prior to open registration for the current year, please check back after registering for the most updated information.

Eligibility

  1. Five or more years of successful full-time classroom teaching experience, as a teacher of record in a K-12 teaching assignment (excludes internships, student teaching, shared teaching, or substitute teaching)  Verification of this employment is required from HR or Administrator on school letterhead with name, years of teaching and a brief description of teaching position(s). Note: Current employer cannot provide verification of prior employment; ie candidates must supply Verification of Employment from each separate employer listed.

  2. Demonstration of exceptional teaching practice as evidenced by a prior site evaluation with the equivalent of satisfactory or better on all criteria. The evaluation must have been within the last three years. 

  3. Evidence of leadership roles held during the preceding years of teaching.

  4. Recommendation from current principal. After submitting the initial application form, your principal will be contacted to provide an anonymous recommendation form.

Application Process

Step 1: 

  • Review ECO requirements and discuss with district lead or SDCOE to determine whether ECO is a viable option.

Note: The initial ECO Application Google Form indicates your intention to apply for ECO; An ECO application is not considered complete until the application cover sheet and all of the additional materials are submitted as described in the steps below. 

*Submit the initial ECO Application Google Form AFTER you are registered for SDCOE induction and have had time to review the process (steps 1 & 2 above)

Step 4:

  • Submit a completed ECO Application Cover Sheet along with all required materials by the deadline: Monday, October 2, 2023. Applications will be reviewed after the deadline.

Notes: Completed application, including required materials, must be submitted in a single email to induction@sdcoe.net

The additional required materials to submit along with the cover sheet will include:

  1. Letter(s) from previous employers verifying a minimum of five years prior teaching experience
  2. Site Evaluation
  3. Record of Leadership Roles (completed on the cover sheet)

Please note: Submission of an application does not guarantee approval as an ECO candidate.

**If it is determined that additional information is required fully consider an ECO application, an observation conducted by the District Lead or SDCOE Induction staff may be required. You will be notified if an observation is required. 

Step 5: 

  • Applications will be reviewed after the application deadline of Monday, October 2, 2023. Candidates will be notified of ECO status within 10 business days. Only completed applications will be considered (steps 3 & 4 above).

There are no exceptions to any of the requirements.

ECO Plan

  • Once accepted into ECO, the candidate will continue to complete the Year 1 Induction Individual Learning Plan (ILP) in SDCOE's LMS.

  • SDCOE Teacher Induction program leadership will assess candidate progress throughout the year. Candidates who do not meet the due date requirements, submit graduate-level work, or maintain a level of professionalism consistent with the intent of the Early Completion Option may have their ECO status revoked and complete induction in the traditional two-year time frame.

Completion​

  • ECO candidates will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies required of the Professional Clear Credential.

  • ECO candidates will demonstrate all skills and abilities required of the program.

  • The timeline for completion of the ECO will be a minimum of one year as determined by the Teacher Candidate, District Lead, and SDCOE Teacher Induction program leadership.​

Through Action Research (cycles of inquiry) candidates will develop an Individual Learning Plan that includes professional growth goals, a description of how the candidate will work to meet those goals, defined and measurable outcomes, and planned opportunities to reflect on progress and modify the ILP as needed.
