Extension Application Materials

An extension may be requested only when a candidate has not completed all of the preliminary credential requirements by the expiration date, and also has a valid reason for not doing so. Extensions are granted by the CTC on a case-by-case basis, and if granted, the credential will be extended for one year. For more information visit the CTC website

Step 1: Review and print the information below

Step 2: Complete and Collect:

  • Temporary County Certificate Application — Only for teachers at public school districts. Contact your employer to obtain the correct form for your county of employment.
  • Personal Statement (letter) to the CTC requesting an extension, including the reason why you failed to complete the credential requirements.
  • Fee – $100.00 cashier's check or money order made payable to the CTC.

Step 3: Turn in all documentation to your employer's Human Resources Credential Technician. They will mail the packet to our Credentials Office for processing.

DO NOT SCAN AND EMAIL APPLICATIONS. SDCOE CANNOT ACCEPT SCANNED APPLICATIONS DUE TO THE SENSITIVE PERSONAL INFORMATION.

If at any time you have questions about this application process, please contact the credential technician at your employing school district. Collect all application materials.  Apply early, usual processing time is about 4 weeks after our office receives your application. We cannot expedite applications.
