Intern programs in the following credential areas:

Education Specialist credential
Single Subject credential
  • Mild to Moderate (M/M)
  • Moderate to Severe (M/S)
  • Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE)
  • Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH)
      • Math
      • Science 

An intern program is a 2-year credential program that allows you to be a full-time teacher of record while earning your credential.  It differs from a traditional teacher education program which requires student teaching as well as completion of all coursework requirements prior to employment as a teacher.

SDCOE Intern Program
  • Complete coursework that prepares you to become a teacher, while employed as a teacher 

  • Receive mentoring and clinical supervision

  • Earn the salary of a teacher while completing credential requirements 

  • Pay into retirement

  • Access benefits provided by the hiring school district

Traditional Teacher Education Program
  • Complete coursework that prepares you to become a teacher

  • Complete student teaching (not a paid position) while receiving mentoring and clinical supervision
