Master/Mentor Teacher Training

How will you ensure that your Master Teachers and Mentors are trained?

The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) built an online training to help universities and districts satisfy the most recent Multiple and Single Subject Credential Standards and Teacher Induction Standards in California         (Preliminary Multiple Subject and Single Subject Credential Program Common Standard 3; Program Standard 3; Teacher Induction Program Standard 4) 

The standards call for recent training in various areas of coaching and classroom pedagogy. 

 The CTC guidelines require ongoing training for:
1) site-based supervisors of preservice and beginning teachers (Master Teachers and Induction Mentors), and
2) Teacher Education program supervisors (University employed) of Preliminary Credential Candidates


This course is appropriate for Master Teachers and University Supervisors of clinical practice candidates, Induction Mentors AND teachers who serve as peer mentors at their sites and districts.

The training is 8 hours completed at your own pace over 4 weeks, completely online managed by a facilitator/instructor, and delivered in four distinct modules covering:

  • Necessary dispositions of mentors

  • Valuing adult learners

  • The skills of mentoring and coaching

  • Collaborative practice

  • Effective systems

  • UDL, MTSS, and curricular adaptations

Each participant receives a certificate of completion that is portable as evidence of having been trained (for future service as a Master Teacher, Supervisor or Mentor), and any university or district participating will have access to a growing database of Master Teachers and Mentors who have been trained (for accreditation purposes).
