Register now for the 21st annual Leadership in Biliteracy Symposium from 4:30 to 7 p.m. May 16 at the La Jolla Marriott. The Leadership in Biliteracy Symposium is an awards celebration held each year in May to acknowledge the individuals who have made significant contributions in promoting biliteracy for our students. This elegant event honors district and community leaders, promotes biliteracy as an educational asset, and celebrates the achievements of the community.
Tom Torlakson, former state superintendent of public instruction, will be present to accept this year's Leadership in Biliteracy Community Award for his Global California 2030 initiative, which expands biliteracy education in California.
District or charter school leaders can nominate a biliteracy champion for recognition until April 30.

For more than 10 years, the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) and volunteers have been able to present Bea Gonzales Biliteracy Scholarships to select students deemed meritorious candidates by their districts, as well as the Mission to Succeed scholarships sponsored by Mission Federal Credit Union. Students can apply now to be considered for the 2019 scholarships.
