Spanish Language Development

The MEGA department, in collaboration with the California Department of Education, proudly announces the publication of the first-ever Spanish Language Development (SLD) Standards. These standards can be used to plan instruction and assessment for students new to Spanish, or to integrate language learning with Spanish Language Arts and other subject matter. The standards can be found here.

Professional Learning Opportunities

Starting Spring of 2018, professional learning on the standards will be lead by The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) in partnership with the California Reading and Literacy Project. Intended learning intentions for the professional learning sessions include:

  • Recognizing the links between language development and Language Arts Standards

  • Understanding the structure, use and value of the SLD standards

  • Identifying strengths of model lessons for integrated and designated SLD
  • Connecting the SLD standards to content areas and texts to be taught in Spanish

More details on the SLD standards professional learning sessions is forthcoming.

To place an order for a printed copy(s), please email Jorge Cuevas Antillón

Online versions of the SLD Standards will be available soon.
