Spanish Language Development Standards

SDCOE's Language Learner Team proudly announces the publication of the first-ever Spanish Language Development (SLD) Standards through the auspices of the California Department of Education. The standards can be used to plan instruction and assessment for Spanish Leaners (students new to Spanish) or to integrate language learning with Spanish Language Arts and other subject matter. Accordingly the standards can be obtained at commoncore-espanol.com within the California tab labeled "CaCCSS en Español"-"SLA/Literacy" (Spanish Language Arts) section.

Starting Spring of 2018, professional learning on the standards will be lead by SDCOE in partnership with the California Reading and Literacy Project. Intended learning intentions  for the professional learning sessions include:

  • Recognizing the links between language development and language arts standards.

  • Understanding the structure, use and value of the Spanish language development standards

  • Identifying strengths of model lessons for integrated and designated Spanish Language

  • Development.

  • Connecting the SLD standards to content areas and texts to be taught in Spanish.

More details on the SLD standards professional learning sessions is forthcoming.

To place an order for a printed copy(s), please email Jorge Cuevas Antillón

Online versions of the SLD Standards will be available soon.
