Imaginations Ignited as 2,500 Students Make 14th Annual High Tech Fair in Del Mar the Biggest Fair Ever

More than 2,500 students from 42 schools took part in the annual High Tech Fair at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the biggest fair ever and a strong example of the region’s strength in the STEM fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Nearly 60 exhibitors ranging from clean technology and energy, to conservation and environmental science, aerospace engineering, health care and robotics, engaged students and encouraged them to use the technical equipment in their exhibits.

“This is not a career fair, this is an excitement fair,” said Rick Beach, president of the San Diego Science Alliance, which puts on the annual event, with the help of the San Diego County Office of Education.

Exhibitors paid for the opportunity to put on their displays, and those funds were used to pay for buses to transport students to the all-day Fair. Said San Diego County Superintendent of Schools Randy Ward, “They’re inspiring our next generation of innovators.”
