CIF Recognizes High School Athletic Teams For Stellar Academic Performance

Seven San Diego County high school sport teams were recently honored for something other then using their athletic ability on the field, court and pool.

The CIF-San Diego Section (CID-SDS) recognized the high school “All Academic Teams” for exceptional performance in academics, earning the highest unweighted grade point average by all members of the respective teams. Each school sent team representatives to the ceremony, held at the County Office of Education. Coaches, faculty and staff, were also recognized for their contribution to the student´s success in the classroom.

“Athletics is an extension of the classroom,” said Carlton Hoggard, CIF Financial Secretary. “Ethics, honesty, integrity, repetition, and working with others are examples of how athletics and academics are similar.”

The CIF-SDS All Academic Teams program honors high school athletic teams annually by season. All high school sports are eligible for consideration.

“Individual achievement is to be admired,” said Hoggard. “The athletes have learned how life lessons of time management, prioritizing, hard work and determination in the classroom and on their respective field of play operate hand in hand.”

The honored teams will now proceed to be nominated to the state CIF for state recognition.
