State Teachers of the Year Sit Down With KOGO Radio

Melanie Tolan and Kelly Kovacic, California Teachers of the Year and also two of the five teachers named 2010 San Diego County Teachers of the Year, recently stopped by the Clear Channel Radio offices to sit down with Mark Zegan from AM 600 KOGO.

Tolan, who works for the Juvenile Court and Community Schools, and Kovacic, of the The Preuss School at UCSD, discussed important issues facing public schools, as well as some of the biggest influences on students today.

In addition to her county and state honors, Kovacic was also named as the state’s sole representative in the United States Teacher of the Year program. A social studies teacher extraordinaire who teaches 11th and 12th graders at Preuss, Kovacic will travel to Washington D.C. April 26-30, with three other national Teacher of the Year finalists, for United States Teacher of the Year announcement.

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will make the Teacher of the Year announcement in a White House ceremony with the teachers. While in Washington, Kovacic and the other teachers will also dine at the home of Vice President Joe Biden.
